Dear David,

11th July 2024

John Taylor Hospice

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposed job losses at the John Taylor Hospice, 76 Grange Road, Birmingham B24 0DF.
Many residents have contacted me concerned about the hospice’s future, and the consequent consultation, in which they tell me that 150 members of staff have been placed on redundancy since the hospice did not receive the funds it so sorely required from the ICB.

I am especially concerned at the potential loss of highly experienced staff, including specialist nurses, doctors, and therapists, and the impact this will have on patients in hospice care.
I was alarmed to hear that inpatient beds could be reduced to just eight at a time when services like these are already stretched, meaning thousands of residents in my constituency and across the city, and beyond, will be dying without the dignity and support that they deserve.

I would therefore like to understand how the ICB are planning to support the John Taylor Hospice, and what financial assistance is being put in place to ensure that patients continue to be supported with dignity and care.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Paulette Hamilton MP
