Paulette’s speech in full

On this historic night I want to start by saying a massive thankyou to the returning officer, the counting agents, the police, the candidates, my election agent Paul Lilly, Erdington constituency Labour Party, my campaign team, my family and especially the voters in Erdington, Kingstanding, Castle Vale and South Oscott who put their trust in me and the Labour Party.

I became an MP on the 4th March 2022. When I took my oath on the 7th March 2022, I made it clear that I would serve my community and be the voice for local residents. The work to win this election did not just start when the election was called six weeks ago. My local CLP, local partners, local councillors and residents have been working together with me for the last two years and three months for this victory.

It is an absolute honour to serve my community and an honour I do not take for granted. I have heard the many voices tell me about the changes they want to see happening on our high street, and tonight I want to say loud and clear that I have and will do all I can to work our community to make the changes so desperately needed in our area after over a decade of Tory neglect.

Tonight, the country has spoken and I’m so proud that Labour now have the opportunity to serve.

Erdington is my home and I’m so humbled that voters there have elected me again to represent them. Let’s all be a part of the change that this country needs’.
