Paulette Hamilton Labour MP for Birmingham Erdington
Paulette Hamilton MP joined Andrew Goodacre, CEO of the British Independent Retailers Association (BIRA) and walked along Erdington High Street, They discussed of the vital role these businesses play in shaping the character of our area. From the friendly faces behind the counters to the unique products on display, some from different parts of the world, these shops are more than just businesses – they are the heart of our community.
Paulette said, “It was an absolute pleasure to spend time on Erdington High Street recently, visiting our local retailers alongside Andrew Goodacre, CEO of the British Independent Retailers Association. Our independent shops are a lifeline for our community, and it was inspiring to see firsthand the resilience and determination of our local business owners.”
During the visit, Paulette spoke with Andrew about the progress we’re making to support our high street. While Erdington has faced its share of challenges over the years, it’s encouraging to see the positive impact of initiatives like Operation Fearless. This joint effort is already making a difference, helping to create a safer and more welcoming environment for both businesses and shoppers. Retailers are beginning to see the benefits, and it’s a testament to what we can achieve when we work together.
But there’s still more to do. Supporting our high street isn’t just about tackling challenges – it’s about creating opportunities. By shopping locally, we can ensure that our independent retailers not only survive but thrive. Every purchase made at a local business helps to sustain jobs, boost our economy, and preserve the unique character of Erdington.
Paulette added, “I’m committed to continuing this work alongside organisations like BIRA to support our local businesses that makes our community so special.”
