A family home in our community is under threat. A planning application has been submitted to turn it into a 5-bed House in Multiple Occupancy (HMO), and local MP Paulette Hamilton is taking a stand.

For too long, Paulette has heard from frustrated and concerned residents across Erdington constituency about the negative impact of poorly managed HMOs. From overflowing bins and anti-social behaviour to the erosion of community spirit – we simply already have too many.

This latest application is particularly worrying. The details are vague, failing to identify who the promised professional and key workers would be. Without proper oversight, there is a real risk it could add to the problems residents already face.

Paulette is deeply concerned that with cheaper housing prices, Castle Vale could become a target for more speculative HMO applications, fundamentally changing the character of our neighbourhoods.

Paulette said, “We must protect our community from becoming a magnet for unsustainable HMOs.

“This application lacks clarity and could set a worrying precedent. We need to send a strong message that Castle Vale values stable, family-oriented housing and strong community ties.”

Paulette is launching a local campaign to stop this planning application and is calling on every resident who cares about the future of Castle Vale to back it.
