Statement on ATLP Strike Action

In response to the news of the strike action at schools run by The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, I am deeply concerned about the impact this dispute is having on pupils, parents and staff.

Schools in our area including Osborne Primary School, Slade Primary School and Stockland Green School in Erdington, as well as Paget Primary School in Pype Hayes, are among those affected by this industrial action, creating real uncertainty for local families and disrupting children’s education.

I have met with Ministers, and I have heard directly from worried parents who are anxious about school closures, lost learning time and the knock-on effects on family livelihoods.

Many parents are struggling to balance work and childcare, while children face disruption to their education and support at a critical time.

I am extremely concerned about the potential impact of compulsory redundancies on frontline staff and on the most vulnerable pupils. It is vital that children are not made to pay the price for financial or managerial decisions taken elsewhere.

I believe that everyone involved now needs to get around the table and negotiate in good faith.

The trust, the unions and the Government must work together urgently to find a resolution that avoids further disruption and puts children’s education first.

Therefore, I will be writing to the department to press a resolution that ensures a fair settlement that protects pupils, supports staff, and gives families the certainty they deserve.
