Local MP Paulette Hamilton has kept up the pressure on officials to ensure the historic Erdington Library is reopened as swiftly and sustainably as possible, following a progress update on the much-delayed repair works.
At a recent partner meeting with officers overseeing the project, Paulette made it clear that there must be greater transparency with the local community regarding the challenges causing the extended closure. The Grade II listed building, a cornerstone of the community, has suffered significant damage that requires specialist attention.
Paulette said, “This much-loved, historic library has suffered damage that needs to be properly repaired.
“As an old Grade II listed building, the work is complex, but I am keen to ensure residents are kept in the loop every step of the way.”
During the meeting, it was confirmed that the crucial structural survey has now been approved. The next major step involves submitting the work consent application, a process which is expected to take approximately 12 weeks. Following approval, the hope is that contractors will be appointed shortly after to begin the physical repairs.
