No, it’s not an April Fools’ Day joke.
A planning application for a 5-bedroom House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) on Morar Close has been formally REFUSED by Birmingham City Council.
The decision marks a significant victory for residents in Castle Vale, who rallied behind a local campaign led by Paulette Hamilton MP.
Speaking after the refusal, Paulette said. “This is great news for Castle Vale. A huge thank you to everyone who backed my local campaign. We continue to stop more HMOs opening in our community. I have a 100% track record of success, and we’re not stopping now.”
Paulette has consistently opposed inappropriate HMO developments, arguing that while good-quality rented accommodation has its place, the concentration of such properties can put pressure on local services, parking, and community cohesion.
Residents on Morar Close and the surrounding area had raised concerns about noise, parking shortages, and the changing character of their neighbourhood, concerns that were echoed by the council’s planning committee in their decision to refuse the application.
