I learned this morning of the deeply disappointing news that Jaguar Land Rover plans to cut 4,000 jobs, citing rising costs, falling sales and the impact of US tariffs.
I am particularly disappointed by this announcement, having worked with Jaguar Land Rover for many months to support its future and the jobs it provides across our region. I first learned of the announcement following a call with a member of the Jaguar Land Rover team, and I will be meeting with them very soon to get a full update.
At this stage, it is not clear where these job losses will fall, how many will affect the West Midlands, or what the implications will be for the Castle Bromwich site in my constituency. I will be raising these concerns with the Government and pressing for clarity on what this means for workers, their families and our wider automotive industry.
The people who have built Jaguar Land Rover into the world-renowned company it is today deserve certainty, support and a strong future here in Birmingham Erdington and across the West Midlands.
